With the Bihar assembly elections scheduled for later this year, the political landscape is becoming increasingly active. Tej Pratap Yadav, the elder son of Lalu Yadav, has announced his decision to leave the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and establish a new political party. The new party will be named ‘Janshakti Janata Dal’. He visited the Election Commission on August 17th to register the party.

Information indicates that Tej Pratap Yadav, accompanied by the president and secretary of the Janshakti Janata Dal party, met with the Chief Electoral Officer. The party was reportedly formed in 2020. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Balendu Das, a close associate of Tej Pratap, contested on behalf of the Janshakti Janata Dal party and received the flute as his election symbol.

Tej Pratap brought the required documents to the Election Commission. The Election Commission had recently issued notices to several parties in the state, requiring them to renew their registration and provide necessary documents. Following this, discussions arose about whether Tej Pratap Yadav would be leading the Janshakti Janata Dal.

On Monday, the Janshakti Janata Dal received recognition from the Election Commission. It’s understood that Tej Pratap had a discussion with the Chief Electoral Officer for about 30 minutes and registered the party under his name.

Despite this, when Tej Pratap Yadav was questioned by the media following his meeting with the Chief Electoral Officer, he clarified that his visit was to address the matter of voter names being removed from the Mahua assembly constituency.

Tej Pratap Yadav also commented on the ongoing vote rights journey being conducted by Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav in Bihar on the same day. He mentioned that the journey would not be fruitful, highlighting the importance of focusing on issues such as employment and education. He criticized Rahul and Tejashwi for allegedly wasting time on the ‘SIR’ issue.
