Giridih: Usri Mahotsav has been organized in the direction of the initiative to save the Usri River, the lifeblood of Giridih. This three-day festival was inaugurated by DC Naman Priyesh Lakra on Friday. During this time many administrative officials, members of Usri rescue operation and enlightened people of Giridih were present. On the occasion, DC Naman Priyesh Lakra said that Usri river has to be saved through joint efforts. Said that if the civil society along with the administration continues to take conscious initiatives, then many positive actions will be taken to save the Usri River.
Many schemes are coming into existence
Giridih DC said that CCL will start check dam construction and cleaning soon. The government is going to bring Usri River Front Scheme soon. Its form is being made. In Peertand, work is going on to provide irrigation facilities to the farmers through Mega Lift Irrigation Scheme. An action plan is being prepared for environmental protection in Usri River and Khandoli. Said that people have a lot of emotional attachment towards river conservation. Usri Mahotsav is a very commendable step in this regard. He said that there is a need to make people living on the banks of Usri river aware. It doesn’t take time to spoil things, but it takes a lot of energy to improve them. He said that efforts to save Usri River should continue in the future also, so that it continues to exist as a better river. Said that the administration is trying. Said that everyone will have to work together to maintain environmental balance.

It is necessary to save the sick river
DFO Manish Chaudhary said that Usri river is sick. It is important to save it. The administration is fulfilling its responsibility. It is the public’s responsibility to save the Usri River. Charghara village of Jamua block is the origin place of Usri river. This is an area adjacent to Deori block. Initially its width is about six to eight feet. Near Fatehabad its width becomes about 15-16 feet. While visiting many villages of Jamua assembly constituency, this river passes near Langta Baba Samadhi site. Usri river takes a bigger size from the forest ravines of Giridih block. Passing through Bankhanjo, Shastri Nagar, Argaghat, it falls in Usri Falls. Usri river is northern, hence it has its own importance. On the occasion of Mahaparva Chhath, a crowd of devotees and devotees gather on the banks of river Usri. Devotees collect water from here to organize religious programs including Yagya.
Efforts are being made to save Usri

The special thing is that even on the occasion of the great festival Chhath, this dirty water keeps getting absorbed in the Usri river. In such a situation, for the last several years there has been a demand to set up a sewage treatment plant to prevent dirty water. Even during the festival, speakers raised this demand loudly. Coordinator of Usri River Rescue Campaign, Rajesh Sinha, apart from the demand for construction of Chilka Dam on Usri River, emphasized on the demands of plantation on both the banks of the river, check dams, parks at various places, prevention of encroachment on the river etc. Said that the water level will increase due to the construction of Chhilka Dam. Life of animals and birds will be saved in summer.
