The Toyota Innova celebrates its 20th anniversary in India, marking a significant achievement for the MPV. Over two decades, the Innova has become a standout model, leading the premium MPV segment and contributing greatly to Toyota’s sales success. Its widespread acceptance has solidified Toyota’s market presence in India. The Innova’s popularity is evident, with over 1.2 million units sold.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor has achieved sales exceeding 1.2 million units. A Toyota Kirloskar Motor executive emphasized the strong emotional bond the Innova has fostered with its customers over the last 20 years.

The Innova has been updated three times since its initial release. The first generation featured a ladder-frame chassis, replacing the Toyota Qualis. The 2016 Innova Crysta brought design refinements, new engines, and enhanced features. In 2022, the Innova Hycross was introduced, featuring a monocoque platform, front-wheel drive, and a self-charging hybrid system. The Hycross pairs a 2.0-liter petrol engine with an electric motor and an e-CVT gearbox, promising excellent mileage. By November 2024, sales of the Hycross exceeded 1 lakh units.

The Innova is a cornerstone of Toyota’s strategy in India. It has been a favorite among both private buyers and commercial sectors. It has consistently improved its safety, comfort, and emissions performance, reflecting the changing demands of the Indian automotive market. Over the past 20 years, the Innova has found a loyal following among diverse customers, including urban families, taxi/fleet operators, and intercity travel services. While the Innova Crysta continues to cater to those who prefer a traditional MPV, the hybrid Hycross appeals to those looking for modern technology.

The Innova Crysta is available with a base price of INR 19.99 lakh ex-showroom, with the top model priced up to INR 27.18 lakh. The Innova Hycross ranges from INR 19.14 lakh to INR 32.58 lakh ex-showroom. The mileage of the Hycross varies based on its powertrain. The petrol version offers 16.13 km/liter, while the strong hybrid model delivers up to 23.24 km/liter. The Crysta’s 2.7L petrol manual variant offers 11.5 km/liter, with real-world figures ranging from 8 to 9.5 km/liter. The 2.4L diesel manual model achieves 15.1 km/liter, and real-world mileage is typically between 12.5 and 14 km/liter.
