Trade Tariffs: Trump to Name Countries Facing New Duties

Donald Trump revealed his administration would announce trade tariffs on at least seven countries, with the initial list being released Wednesday morning and additional countries later in the day. This news comes after a prior announcement of reciprocal tariffs for 14 countries, with a deadline of August 1, 2025. The information was shared via Truth Social. Letters were sent to the countries impacted. The first letters were addressed to Japan and South Korea. Additional letters went to Malaysia, Kazakhstan, South Africa, Myanmar, and Laos. Subsequent letters followed, including to Thailand, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Tunisia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Cambodia. The tariffs varied. Japan and South Korea face a 25% tariff, Thailand and Cambodia at 36%, Bangladesh and Serbia at 35%, Malaysia and Kazakhstan at 25%, Myanmar and Laos at 40%, Indonesia at 32%, South Africa and Bosnia and Herzegovina at 30%, and Tunisia at 25%. Trump noted he would be open to discussing different arrangements with these countries regarding the August 1, 2025 deadline.
