A jubilant mood enveloped Giridih on Friday, celebrating the Jharkhand government’s cabinet approval of the PESA (Panchayat Extension to Scheduled Areas) rules on December 23rd. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) responded with enthusiasm, organizing a ‘Gratitude March’ to express their deep appreciation for Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s administration. The celebration began at the JMM district office with a sweet distribution ceremony, transitioning into a lively procession with music and flags, heading towards Tower Chowk. District President Sanjay Singh highlighted the historical significance of the PESA rules, fulfilling a 25-year-old dream of tribal self-governance in Jharkhand’s scheduled areas. He stressed that the PESA law will dramatically enhance the powers of Gram Sabhas, ensuring their pivotal role in local development planning and execution. The securement of rights over natural resources and land was a key point raised by District Secretary Mahalal Soren. Prominent figures including Nunuram Kisku alias Tiger and District Spokesperson Krishna Murari Sharma hailed the decision as a transformative step for rural India and the state.
