Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin met at an Alaskan airbase, displaying mutual warmth. The encounter, which included the unusual act of sharing a car, has drawn attention and worry from European countries. Their concern centers on the possibility of Putin securing deals that favor his interests.

The meeting, occurring after a six-year gap, saw Kirill Dmitriev, a leading Russian negotiator, confirm that the discussions would cover more than just Ukraine and economic issues. TASS reported that the leaders would also delve into global strategic security. Despite Trump’s earlier statements about leaving the meeting if it went poorly, both leaders seemed upbeat. While the U.S. presents the meeting as a peace initiative, Trump’s business background suggests a strategic agenda.

Restoring ties between Russia and the U.S. is under consideration, according to RDIF CEO Dmitriev, indicating that the agenda encompasses not only economic matters and Ukraine but also avenues to improve US-Russia relations. If discussions are limited to these subjects, Ukraine might be at a disadvantage.

The meeting between the two leaders could span up to 7 hours. Peskov said that other subjects of discussion include bilateral Russia-U.S. relations, prospective joint economic projects, and additional regional and international issues.
