Former President Donald Trump has commented on his prior statement on social media that suggested the US had lost India and Russia to China. Addressing reporters at the White House, Trump stated that he does not believe this to be true. He also discussed his disappointment with India’s decision to purchase Russian oil and highlighted the 50% tariffs placed on Indian goods by the United States. Trump noted his positive relationship with Indian Prime Minister Modi, citing a recent meeting. The remarks follow a Shanghai Cooperation Organisation gathering that involved India, Russia, and China. Peter Navarro, a former advisor, accused India of profiting from Russian oil. The White House Economic Advisor, Kevin Hassett, shared similar sentiments. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has declined to comment on Trump’s remarks but affirmed its ongoing engagement with the US on trade issues. The US has imposed significant tariffs on Indian imports, including penalties related to Russian oil.
