The Trump administration is increasing the National Guard presence in Los Angeles, with an additional 2,000 troops being deployed to support ICE and federal law enforcement, the Department of Defence has confirmed. This follows an initial order to deploy 2,000 troops, making it a total of 4,000. The move is happening against the backdrop of ongoing protests and a lawsuit filed by California, challenging the legality of the deployment. The White House has criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom. California Attorney General Rob Bonta has condemned the federal order, characterizing it as a violation of the Constitution and federal law. He stated that Trump’s order was issued without the authorization of Governor Newsom. Governor Newsom responded, accusing the President of undermining state authority. The protests were sparked by ICE operations and the detention of undocumented individuals.
