Donald Trump, the former U.S. President, has publicly expressed his frustration with Russian President Vladimir Putin over the ongoing situation in Ukraine. Trump, who has been actively involved in attempting to end the conflict through various means, including discussions with both the Ukrainian and Russian leaders, shared his sentiments during an interview. He has previously expressed concern over the casualties of the war. Despite these efforts, the conflict continues. During the interview, Trump stated that he is very disappointed with Putin regarding the war in Ukraine. He mentioned that he was disappointed by the lack of progress towards a peace agreement following their meeting in Alaska. He indicated that their relationship was once good, but he now feels let down. Trump also suggested that the U.S. may be considering actions to help save lives in the conflict, but did not provide any further details. Furthermore, Trump stated that he is unconcerned about the growing relationship between Russia and China. He stated that he has no worries about the increasing ties between Moscow and Beijing. He emphasized the strength of the U.S. military, asserting that neither China nor Russia would consider using their military forces against the U.S. These comments were made shortly after a summit in Tianjin, China, where President Xi Jinping hosted President Putin. During their meeting, Jinping referred to Putin as a long-time friend. Jinping also met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whose relationship with Russia, particularly concerning energy, has been criticized by Trump. Putin is currently on a visit to China, which includes participation in a military parade. Trump met with Putin in Alaska in August and later hosted Ukrainian President Zelenskyy in Washington with European and NATO leaders. Trump expressed his hope that Zelenskyy and Putin would have a direct meeting before any trilateral discussions, which he would attend. Zelenskyy has accused Moscow of creating obstacles in such talks, while Russia maintains that the agenda is still under development. Trump has reassured Zelenskyy that the U.S. will support Ukraine’s security in any agreement and indicated that further sanctions against Russia may be considered if peace efforts fail.
