President Donald Trump lit up social media with news of a significant concession from Venezuela: the large-scale freeing of political prisoners. From Washington, he touted U.S. actions as the catalyst, marking what he deems a monumental event in Latin American geopolitics.

The president’s message cut straight to the point: ‘Venezuela has started releasing its political prisoners on a very large scale. Thank you!’ He left no doubt about America’s pivotal role, asserting this breakthrough stems from unrelenting U.S. pressure.

Trump’s tone mixed celebration with a stern reminder for those regaining freedom. ‘I hope they remember how lucky they were that America stepped forward and did what was necessary. I hope they never forget it. If they do, it won’t be good for them.’ Such words reflect the leverage dynamics at play.

Trump held back on operational details, neither naming Venezuelan players nor detailing U.S. tactics. Yet, his support for Venezuelans shone through: ‘I love the people of Venezuela and I’m already making Venezuela rich and safe again. Congratulations and thank you to all who are making it happen.’

Further signaling thaw, Trump announced near-term meetings with envoys connected to Venezuela’s regime. ‘Relations between America and Venezuela’s current government are much better than ever before. We’re talking directly to Venezuelan officials to ensure things don’t get worse, and directly to the people of Venezuela – and it’s going well.’

Against a backdrop of sanctions, opposition struggles, and economic freefall, this prisoner release could herald diplomatic openings, with Trump steering the narrative toward U.S.-led renewal.
