In a pivotal moment for the region, 13 Israeli hostages have been released from Hamas captivity and placed under the care of the Red Cross, with the first seven already reaching safety in Israel. The Israel Defense Forces confirmed the transfer, with the freed individuals being met by IDF and medical teams for initial evaluations.

“The Government of Israel embraces our hostages who have returned to their border,” read a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, expressing immense relief and solidarity. The government pledged its “relentless” pursuit of the return of all hostages.

The visual confirmation of the handover, showing the moment Hamas gave the hostages to the Red Cross before their return to Israeli territory, has circulated widely. This act of release has been met with considerable international praise.

Adding significant weight to the diplomatic efforts, United States President Donald Trump has arrived in Israel, the first such visit since the announcement of a Gaza ceasefire deal. He was warmly received by Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Herzog. His itinerary includes an address to the Israeli Knesset followed by a trip to Egypt for a summit with international leaders aimed at advancing the Gaza peace process and ending the conflict. President Trump’s assertion that “the war is over” signifies the high stakes of his diplomatic engagement.
