United States President Donald Trump has signaled a potential visit to India next year, describing Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a “great man” and a “friend.” This development occurs as both nations are engaged in efforts to bolster their trade relationship.
Speaking to the press at the White House, Trump shared his positive outlook on his interactions with PM Modi. “He (PM Modi) largely stopped buying from Russia. And he is a friend of mine, and we speak. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a great man. He is a friend of mine, and we speak, and he wants me to go there. We will figure that out, I will go… Prime Minister Modi is a great man, and I will be going,” Trump remarked.
Upon being directly asked if he intended to travel to India next year, Trump responded with an affirmative “It could be, yes.” The President’s comments were made during a press conference where the administration also announced measures to reduce the price of popular weight-loss drugs in the US.
The possibility of a presidential visit to India comes months after reports suggested he would not attend the Quad Summit.
