Assam Police have arrested two individuals connected to the death of singer Zubeen Garg. Siddhartha Sharma, the singer’s manager, and Shyamkanu Mahanta, the chief organizer of a festival, were arrested in Delhi on Wednesday morning. They face charges related to culpable homicide not amounting to murder, criminal conspiracy, and negligence, according to a senior police officer.

Following their arrest, they were brought to Guwahati and presented before the Kamrup Chief Judicial Magistrate, who ordered a 14-day police custody. The hearing took place at the judge’s residence due to the Durga Puja holiday. Special DGP (CID) Munna Prasad Gupta stated the investigation into Zubeen Garg’s death will be conducted in accordance with the law. The head of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) confirmed the 14-day police custody. An Interpol lookout notice had been issued against them. Shyamkanu Mahanta was detained at the Delhi airport and handed over to Assam Police based on the notice.

Sharma was tracked down near the Delhi-Haryana border. Police seized mobile phones, including Zubeen Garg’s phone. Police sources shared images of the accused. There was heavy security during the transport of the accused. Assam Police and the Rapid Action Force (RAF) were present. The state government has banned Shyamkanu Mahanta from organizing events.

Zubeen Garg was in Singapore prior to his death to participate in the festival. Zubeen’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, expressed her satisfaction and her faith in the investigation team. The Assam government formed an SIT to investigate the singer’s drowning death in Singapore on September 19.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma previously stated that a lookout notice had been issued against Mahanta and Sharma and demanded they appear before the CID by October 6.
