Gujarat police scored a significant win against organized theft with the arrest of two men linked to a Rs 1.5 crore burglary at a doctor’s residence in Ahmedabad’s upscale Satellite neighborhood. The crime took place at Manekbagh Society amid the January 11-16 Uttarayan festivities, when the owners secured their home and departed.
The opportunistic theft involved breaking entry to steal cash and ornaments. Crime Branch’s response was prompt and thorough: specialized teams analyzed footage from 200+ CCTVs, leveraging tech and intel to track down Kamlesh alias Guggu Parmar from Chandkheda and Mehul Parmar from Shahpur, both from Banaskantha.
Kamlesh, a repeat felon, has a rap sheet of at least 10 house theft cases. The recovered treasures—Rs 45 lakh cash, Rs 1.01 crore gold, Rs 50,000 silver, and diamonds—have been seized legally. Proceedings under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita continue as probes extend to possible involvement in additional Ahmedabad crimes.
This case serves as a reminder for residents to bolster home security during holidays, as thieves prowl empty properties. Ahmedabad authorities remain vigilant to curb such festive predations.
