High-stakes peace talks have begun between a senior Ukrainian delegation and top US officials, with the objective of achieving a “dignified end” to the war with Russia. The Ukrainian team is meeting in Florida with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, a critical diplomatic maneuver supported by Presidential advisor Jaresh Kushner.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy shared his positive outlook, attributing it to the “constructive approach” shown by the US. He revealed on X that the delegation is equipped with clear priorities to expedite steps towards ending the war. “The dialogue based on the Geneva points will continue. Diplomacy remains active,” Zelenskyy assured, anticipating concrete outcomes from the discussions. The overarching aim for Ukraine is to secure “a dignified peace.”

These negotiations come as Ukraine reports persistent Russian attacks, causing civilian casualties. In parallel, Russian President Vladimir Putin has commented on the US peace proposal, suggesting it could form the basis for future accords. However, Putin also issued a stark warning, stating Russia would expand its territorial control by force unless Kyiv withdraws its forces from occupied regions. Putin also confirmed that Special Envoy Steve Witkoff is scheduled to visit Moscow next week for further engagement on the conflict.
