Trump reportedly accepted these terms, and the leaders were preparing to meet. Trump’s acceptance of Putin’s terms is believed to have been influenced by the death of Michael Glass, the son of an American intelligence officer, during the Ukraine conflict. Putin bestowed the Order of Lenin upon Michael Glass’s father. The award recognized Michael’s service. The award was presented through Steve Witkoff, Trump’s envoy, who had a prior meeting with Putin. It is presumed that this gesture swayed Trump’s decision.
