₹16,390 crore GST collection in the financial year 2024-25, marking a historic growth of 18 percent

Raipur, April 2, 2025 / Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, Chhattisgarh has achieved another significant milestone. In the financial year 2024-25, the state has recorded a total GST revenue collection of ₹16,390 crore, registering the highest annual growth rate of 18 percent in the country. This achievement establishes Chhattisgarh as the top state in the country in terms of GST revenue growth. In this sequence, Maharashtra with 16% and Tamil Nadu with 15% growth rate stood at second and third place respectively.

Monthly collection exceeds ₹2000 crore for the first time in March 2025

In March 2025, Chhattisgarh received ₹1,301.09 crore under the SGST head, which is 72 percent higher than in March 2024. This is the first time that the state has crossed the ₹1000 crore mark in SGST collection.
In March 2025 itself, ₹756.73 crore was received under the IGST head, which is 10 percent higher than the previous year. Thus, the total GST collection in March 2025 was ₹2,057.82 crore, which reflects an impressive monthly growth of 43 percent compared to ₹1,443.66 crore in March 2024. After the implementation of GST, Chhattisgarh has crossed the ₹2000 crore mark in total GST revenue in a single month for the first time.

Historic success achieved through better administration, incorporation of technology, and continuous monitoring

This remarkable progress is a direct result of the extensive reforms, innovations, and new work culture implemented in the Commercial Tax Department under the guidance of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and the directives of Finance Minister Shri O P Choudhary in the state. Under the guidance of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai and Commercial Tax Minister Shri O. P. Choudhary, the department has taken decisive steps to make GST administration more proactive, transparent, and result-oriented.

    Control over Non-Filers

Compliance rates have improved significantly through continuous monitoring and communication with traders who do not file returns. The number of non-filers has decreased from 15 percent to just 6 percent.

    Investigation of Fake Registrations

Physical verification of more than 28,000 businesses was conducted, out of which 4,252 firms, which is about 15% of the total firms, were found to be fake. This has effectively curbed tax evasion and increased tax compliance.

    Data Analytics Based Action

Based on data analytics, ₹45.13 crore was recovered by examining the books of accounts in 313 cases throughout the year.
At the same time, an additional amount of ₹47.35 crore was received from the search/inspection of 77 establishments.

    Sector Analysis and Inter-Departmental Coordination

Using sector-based analysis and inter-departmental data, the GST department identified 49 potential tax evasion areas, resulting in a revenue of ₹101 crore.

    Better Compliance from Government Departments

Under special efforts made in March 2025, an additional revenue of ₹37 crore was collected from the suppliers of government departments by getting them to file GSTR-7 returns.

    Extensive Trader Outreach Campaign

Across the state, 36,847 traders who had either filed nil returns or showed negative growth in business were contacted, ensuring increased tax compliance. The direct result of all these concrete and technology-based measures is that Chhattisgarh is today at the top position in GST growth in the country.

Preparing Digital and AI-Based Strategy for the Future

Under the guidance of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai and Finance Minister Shri O P Choudhary, the GST department is now committed to implementing digital tracking, artificial intelligence-based monitoring systems, and advanced compliance mechanisms to maintain Chhattisgarh’s leading position in the country in the coming years as well.

“This historic achievement of Chhattisgarh is not just an achievement of figures, but an identity of good governance based on honesty, transparency and public participation. By making tax administration people-centric and technology-driven, our government has proved that if there is willpower, revenue also increases and trust too. Maintaining this momentum, we will make Chhattisgarh a model of economically self-reliant and inclusive development.”
