Traffic police frequently stop drivers for breaking traffic laws, issuing challans to maintain order and safety. Many people wonder about the specific authority traffic police have, such as whether they can remove car keys or deflate tires. Here’s a breakdown.

**Regulations on Keys and Tire Tampering**

The Motor Vehicles Act does not permit traffic police to take your car keys or release air from your tires. These actions are illegal. If this happens, make a video and report it to higher authorities.

**Who is Authorized to Issue Challans?**

According to the Indian Motor Vehicles Act of 1932, only Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) and officers of higher ranks are authorized to issue challans. Always carry your driving license, vehicle registration certificate (RC), insurance, and pollution control certificate (PUC) while driving.

**What to Know When a Challan is Issued**

If you are issued a challan, ensure the officer has a challan book or e-challan machine. Issuing a challan without these is against the law. Always get a receipt. If you can’t pay the fine immediately, you can pay it later. In such cases, the court may issue a challan, and the officer can hold your driving license.

    **Towing Rules**

If your car is wrongly parked but you’re inside, the traffic police can’t tow it. Towing is only allowed if the vehicle is empty.
