A devastating incident in Odisha has led to the arrest of a nursing home owner following the deaths of a mother and her newborn during a delivery. The proprietor, Mangulu Charan Pradhan, is accused of performing the delivery without the necessary medical qualifications. The incident, which involved Pradhan and two ANMs, took place on May 11 in the absence of a registered medical professional. The police acted after receiving a complaint from Babu Nayak, the husband of the deceased woman. The two ANMs, Madhusmita Pattanayak and Pramodini Gamango, were arrested earlier. The nursing home had allegedly misled the family by assuring them that they were equipped for a safe delivery, which resulted in the admission of Roji Nayak who was in labor at the time.
