Revolutionizing healthcare delivery, Uttar Pradesh has rolled out a comprehensive framework for Ayushman Bharat hospitals: 30-day claim settlements coupled with ironclad rules against treatment negligence. Unveiled in a statewide circular, the measures aim to fortify the Rs 5 lakh insurance cover for 10 crore vulnerable families.

Governor Anandiben Patel’s administration highlighted data showing 40% of hospitals facing liquidity issues due to delayed payouts. The fix? A tiered payment system rewarding efficient, quality service. Claims under Rs 50,000 will clear in 15 days; larger ones in 30.

Negligence won’t be tolerated—defined as delays in admission, inferior drugs, or incomplete procedures. A centralized command center in Lucknow will oversee 24/7 surveillance via CCTV feeds and patient feedback apps. Violations trigger fines up to 10% of claims plus de-empanelment.

This builds on PM Modi’s vision for ‘Health for All.’ UP leads nationally with 28,000+ empaneled beds, but quality dips prompted action. Partnerships with NABH-accredited chains ensure standards, while rural outreach vans identify eligible beneficiaries.

Stakeholders applaud the balance of carrot and stick. ‘It incentivizes investment in better infrastructure,’ said healthcare analyst Neha Kapoor. Challenges remain, like digital literacy in villages, but pilot districts report 25% faster resolutions.

Looking ahead, integration with ABHA digital health IDs promises paperless claims. For millions relying on Ayushman, this is a lifeline ensuring hospitals stay afloat without skimping on care.
