The Ganga Expressway project is facing delays due to the ongoing monsoon season. In response to this situation, Uttar Pradesh Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Gupta has taken action to accelerate the project’s progress. At a high-level review meeting on September 10, he instructed officials to ensure that construction is completed within the set timeframe, mandating that progress be reviewed on a weekly basis.

The meeting focused on assessing the status of projects under construction and those planned under the Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA). Minister Gupta, also known as Nandi, was briefed on the advancement of the 594 km-long Ganga Expressway, a significant infrastructure venture in the state. While the main stretch of the road is nearly finished, the construction of two essential interchanges has been hampered by heavy rains. The sites for these interchanges, located near Jagatpur (Unchahar Road) and Ahar (Lalganj Road), are experiencing water accumulation, which has made it difficult to remove soil. ITD administrative officer Anil Poonia stated that a substantial portion of the construction work has been completed, but the final part of the main road is still unfinished. He estimated that only about 300 meters of earthwork remains to be completed on the main road.

Despite these challenges, UPEIDA officials are hopeful about making the project operational by November. The remaining work, which includes soil cutting, planting grass on slopes, and building toll booths, is in its final stages. Minister Gupta emphasized the critical nature of maintaining high construction quality, asserting that there should be no compromises. He also highlighted the importance of focusing on the maintenance and safety of the project. This expressway is expected to provide economic benefits to both farmers and traders, who currently face difficulties in accessing wider markets.
