Aman Kumar Mishra (20 years), admitted in the hematology ward of Ranchi-Sadar Hospital, died during treatment on Monday. The patient was a resident of Panki in Palamu district. The mother’s health also deteriorated after receiving the news of her son’s death. When he became unconscious, he was also admitted to the ICU. Doctors told that the patient was suffering from aplastic anemia. Due to lack of timely treatment, he could not be saved. The family members created a ruckus alleging negligence in the death of the patient and complained about it to the senior officials of the hospital. The family members were so upset that as a precautionary measure the Sadar Hospital management had to call the police.

The patient was suffering from a serious disease called aplastic anemia – Dr. Bimlesh

NIT student Aman was brought from Medica Hospital to Sadar Hospital on January 18. In this case, Sadar Hospital Deputy Superintendent Dr. Bimlesh Kumar Singh termed the allegations of any kind of negligence in treatment as baseless. He said that the patient was suffering from a serious disease called aplastic anemia. He was brought here from Medica Hospital. Hematologist Dr. Abhishek was treating him. The patient’s blood and platelets were very low.

Deceased’s uncle accused of negligence in treatment

Deceased’s uncle Kaushal Mishra told that earlier lakhs were spent in a private hospital. After the doctor’s assurance, the nephew was admitted to Sadar Hospital. Medicines worth Rs 1 to 1.25 lakh were imported from outside and tests worth Rs 58 thousand were done. When Aman’s health started deteriorating, oxygen support was given in the hospital ward on the doctor’s advice, but the personnel on duty were not able to provide oxygen and the entire system was leaking from below. Despite giving information, Dr. Abhishek reached the hospital after several hours. The family members accused the hospital staff of indecency and disorganization.

The doctor said the allegation was wrong

Hematologist Dr Abhishek Ranjan, who is treating at Sadar Hospital, told the media that all the information about the serious illness and the risks involved during the treatment was given to the family members. Despite it being Sunday, he had come to Sadar Hospital to see and treat the patient. The patient’s bone marrow had become completely dry. There was a decrease in blood and platelets, due to which the situation becomes serious. He told that the patient was being treated in the general ward to protect him from infection. The patient is taken to ICU only when the condition becomes serious. He said that there was no negligence in the treatment. Expressing confidence in Sadar Hospital, about 25 patients of blood disorders are still undergoing treatment in this ward.

    What is aplastic anemia?

Aplastic anemia is a very serious disease of the rarest category. Sufficient blood cell production stops in the body of a patient suffering from this disease. The blood marrow or bone marrow gets damaged. As a result, the patient experiences extreme fatigue, high risk of blood infection and uncontrolled bleeding. In such a situation, the only option is to take bone marrow from a healthy person and transplant it.
