A groundbreaking US policy freezes immigrant visas from 75 countries, with Pakistan and Bangladesh in the spotlight, earning applause from Indian-American leader Jasdeep Singh Jassi. He hails it as a smart fix for deep-rooted security gaps and vetting failures.

Jassi detailed how these nations’ flawed systems—lax passport checks and corruption—have long threatened American safety. ‘This is Trump delivering on his vision for ironclad immigration vetting,’ he said in an interview. Unvetted individuals from unstable regions have entered freely, heightening risks.

Pointing to Bangladesh’s chaos and Pakistan’s extremist links, Jassi stressed the need for robust pre-entry screening. ‘Both countries are notorious for corrupt passport processes; reform is essential,’ he asserted. The suspension, starting January 21, allows the State Department to refine its procedures against public charge exploitation.

Tommy Pigott, Principal Deputy Spokesperson, clarified the rationale: ‘We’re curbing misuse by potential burdens on public benefits.’ This indefinite pause aims to filter out welfare-dependent immigrants, prioritizing those who won’t strain resources.

For Jassi, the move is reform-oriented, potentially forcing systemic upgrades worldwide. It resonates with Indian-American sentiments favoring secure borders. As implementation begins, expect ripple effects on international migration patterns and bilateral ties.
