Peter Navarro, previously holding a key trade and manufacturing position in the Trump administration, has engaged in a heated exchange on X, challenging Elon Musk over the platform’s handling of information related to India’s purchases of Russian oil. Navarro reacted negatively to a community note on X that corrected the incorrect information he had spread. Navarro stated his claims that India is profiting from the transactions. His comments were made in response to an article in The Washington Post that addressed efforts to improve ties between the US and India. Navarro accused India’s tariffs of harming American jobs and its oil purchases of supporting the Russian war machine.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs has rejected Navarro’s statements, labeling them “inaccurate and misleading.” Despite this, former President Trump has expressed an optimistic view on the US-India relationship, describing it as “very special.” Prime Minister Modi responded positively to Trump’s affirmation of the relationship.
