Michael Rubin, a former official at the Pentagon, has strongly advocated for a significant shift in US foreign policy, particularly regarding Pakistan and India. Rubin declared that Pakistan holds no strategic value for the United States and should be officially labeled a ‘state sponsor of terrorism’. He went as far as to say that Pakistan’s Army Chief, Asim Munir, should be arrested if he visits the US, rather than being treated with diplomatic deference.

Rubin’s critique also targeted former President Trump’s policies, specifically the decision to impose high tariffs on India for procuring oil from Russia. He believes this action was unjustified and that the US owes India a public apology for its approach. Rubin emphasized the need for US foreign policy to be guided by democratic principles and national interests, not by the personal pride of any individual leader.

In discussions about India’s energy security and its relationship with Russia, Rubin supported Prime Minister Modi’s stance on safeguarding Indian interests. He pointed out the hypocrisy of the US criticizing India’s energy imports while engaging in similar trade. Rubin argued that unless the US can provide India with cheaper and sufficient energy alternatives, its criticisms are unwarranted. He concluded that India’s primary focus must remain on ensuring its own security and resource availability.
