After a brief respite, Uttarakhand’s skies are set to darken as a new weather system approaches. The Dehradun weather center forecasts predominantly dry conditions statewide on January 19 and 20, featuring sunny intervals across terrains. Cold snaps persist during non-daylight hours, typical of the season.

Activity ramps up from January 21. Isolated light rain targets Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, Chamoli, and Pithoragarh, with snowfall probable above 3,400 meters, ushering colder air masses.

The 22nd sees continuation in these areas above 3,200 meters. Peak intensity arrives January 23-24, with light-to-moderate rain and snow blanketing multiple spots in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, and Pithoragarh over 3,000 meters. Scattered light falls could extend to other hills and even plains, heightening fog risks in Dehradun and nearby belts.

This spells potential headaches for commuters, with slippery roads and low visibility on the horizon. Tour operators warn of itinerary changes for Char Dham routes, while plain dwellers prepare for intensified winter fog. The system, driven by western winds, highlights Uttarakhand’s volatile mountain climate—residents are reminded to stay informed via official channels for safety.
