Following the restoration of diplomatic relations between India and Canada, the separatist group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), which has been outlawed, has announced its plan to “siege” the Indian Consulate in Vancouver on September 18. The group, which advocates for the creation of Khalistan, has declared that it will occupy the Indian consulate and advised Indo-Canadians who have plans to visit the consulate to reschedule. The SFJ issued a statement alleging that Indian consulates are operating a spy network and engaging in surveillance of those who support the Khalistan cause. This statement mentioned Prime Minister Trudeau’s past remarks indicating an investigation into the involvement of Indian agents in the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. The group claims Indian consulates are still monitoring those who are campaigning for the Khalistan Referendum.
