In a clear sign of India’s rail revolution, the debut Vande Bharat Sleeper train linking Kamakhya and Howrah saw its tickets evaporate hours after going on sale. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent flag-off has sparked nationwide fervor, as confirmed by the Railway Ministry Tuesday.

Long-awaited by millions, this semi-high-speed sleeper (train 27576) kicks off commercial operations on January 22 from Kamakhya and January 23 from Howrah. Reservations started January 19 morning, fully booked across categories in record time via online portals.

Ministry spokespersons noted the instant sell-out underscores public craving for premium rail experiences—faster speeds, plush sleeping berths, and enhanced security. This corridor will transform travel between Northeast and East India, offering sleek interiors and efficient schedules.

The triumph highlights shifting traveler priorities towards reliability and luxury in long-distance night services. It paves the way for more such innovations nationwide.

Complementing this, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw revealed nine new Amrit Bharat trains, covering routes from Kamakhya to Rohtak, Alipurduar to Mumbai, and Dibrugarh to Gomti Nagar, amplifying India’s rail renaissance.
