The Ministry of Home Affairs has made a key decision regarding the security of the Vice President, handing over the responsibility to the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). This involves securing the Vice President’s residence, places of stay, surrounding areas, and providing mobile security. Previously, the Delhi Police were solely responsible for all aspects of the Vice President’s security. The Delhi Police’s current role is limited to providing security outside the Vice President’s residence and managing vehicle access.

The Ministry of Home Affairs issued an advisory to the CRPF, requesting them to execute the Vice President’s security arrangements according to the Blue Book 2025 guidelines. The CRPF was also asked to keep the Ministry informed about the security measures.

The communication from the Ministry of Home Affairs to the CRPF clarified that the CRPF would be responsible for all aspects of the Vice President’s security, including security at his residence, locations of stay, and during transit, as per the Blue Book-2025. The advisory specified that entry security and security around the residence would be the responsibility of the Delhi Police.

The Vice President is under Z+ security, the highest level of protection. This security detail typically includes approximately 50 personnel working in shifts, dedicated to securing the Vice President’s residence and motorcade. This is the second-highest security cover in the nation, following the Special Protection Group (SPG) that safeguards the Prime Minister and their family.

The Blue Book is a comprehensive security manual issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, providing specific guidelines for the protection of the President, Vice President, and Prime Minister. It is the basis for determining security arrangements for all VIPs. The book details the number of security personnel and their operational protocols.

On Tuesday, CP Radhakrishnan was sworn in as the 15th Vice President. He won the election with 452 votes, while the opposition candidate, B. Sudarshan Reddy, received 300 votes. Radhakrishnan formerly served as the Governor of Maharashtra. He has a history as a two-time Member of Parliament from Coimbatore, and he joined the RSS at the age of 16.
