A protest in Nandurbar, Maharashtra, against the murder of a tribal youth turned violent, with clashes erupting. Thousands of members of the tribal community were marching towards the collector’s office when a segment of the crowd began throwing stones and engaging in vandalism. The situation rapidly deteriorated, leading to a violent confrontation. Those present reported that government vehicles within the collectorate complex were targeted, sustaining significant damage.

Police employed a lathi charge and tear gas to bring the situation under control. Numerous police officers and demonstrators were injured during the conflict and were taken to Nandurbar District Hospital. The protesters are seeking severe punishment for the individuals responsible for the recent killing of the tribal youth, with some groups advocating for the death penalty. They are also requesting proper compensation and security for the family of the deceased.

The authorities have urged the public to maintain peace, confirming that certain individuals implicated in the violence have been apprehended, and a complete investigation is ongoing. Additional police units have been deployed due to the increasing tensions within the district. The administration hopes the public will remain calm to help restore peace.

On September 16, Jai Valvi, a local tribal activist, was fatally stabbed. The demonstrators demand the death penalty for those responsible for the killing of Jai Valvi. The police have made arrests and are closely examining the circumstances surrounding the murder.
