A serious incident at Srinagar airport on July 26, 2025, has resulted in an army officer being charged with ‘murderous assault’ after physically attacking four SpiceJet employees. The altercation occurred at the boarding gate during flight SG-386, stemming from a dispute over baggage weight.

The officer became enraged when informed his cabin bag exceeded the 7 kg limit and began assaulting the airline staff. He punched and kicked them repeatedly, continuing his attack even after one employee fell unconscious. The assault resulted in significant injuries, including spinal fractures and jaw injuries.

The officer’s cabin baggage weighed 16 kg, well above the permitted limit. He refused to pay the charges and attempted to bypass the boarding process, violating security regulations. He was escorted back to the gate, where he then physically attacked four members of the SpiceJet ground staff.

An FIR has been filed with the local police, and SpiceJet has initiated the process to place the officer on the no-fly list. The airline has also informed the Ministry of Civil Aviation, seeking appropriate action, and has provided the police with CCTV footage of the incident.
