The forthcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy will see the return of one of India’s most celebrated cricketers, Virat Kohli, to the domestic circuit for Delhi. The DDCA has officially stated that Kohli will be available for a minimum of three matches, a move that aligns with the BCCI’s recent push for established players to compete in domestic cricket. Kohli has an outstanding record in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, having accumulated 763 runs from 12 matches at an impressive average of 69.33. His 2008-09 season was particularly noteworthy, where he amassed 534 runs in seven games, leading the tournament’s scoring charts with four centuries and a personal best of 124. This stellar domestic performance paved the way for his stellar international ODI career, including his integral role in India’s 2011 World Cup triumph and their semi-final appearance in the 2019 edition. Despite the recent heartbreak in the 2023 ODI World Cup final, Kohli’s commitment to domestic play, starting with the Vijay Hazare Trophy, signals his enduring passion and a potential pursuit of the 2027 ODI World Cup.
