Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are set to represent India in the upcoming ODI series against Australia, prompting analyses of their ongoing contributions and roles, especially with the 2027 World Cup in sight. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar responded to questions surrounding Virat Kohli’s fitness assessments, which had gained significant attention. Typically, all centrally contracted players are subject to fitness tests at the BCCI’s National Cricket Academy (NCA) and Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. While the likes of Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Siraj were seen participating in these, Kohli’s absence drew attention. A report stated that Kohli had completed his fitness tests privately in London, with the results later submitted to the CoE. This led to some criticism. Addressing the situation, Agarkar clarified the details during a press conference. He stated that both Kohli and Sharma had completed the required fitness evaluations. Agarkar indicated he had no further information. He confirmed that the players selected had been declared fit. With their return to the team confirmed, both Kohli and Sharma will be eager to showcase their skills, aiming to solidify their positions and potentially compete in the 2027 World Cup.
