The revered Pitru Paksha Mela 2025 is set to take place in Gaya Ji, with the event running from September 6th to 21st. This year introduces online Pind Daan services, enabling devotees worldwide to participate in ancestral rituals. The tradition of Pind Daan is a cornerstone of Hindu belief, offering a way to honor and liberate departed family members.

The Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation (BSTDC) is offering online Pind Daan to accommodate those who cannot physically visit Gaya Ji, providing a means to perform these important rites regardless of distance or circumstance. The service allows individuals to offer prayers and conduct ceremonies for their ancestors from the comfort of their homes.

The comprehensive online package includes puja materials, a priest’s services, and the full religious ceremony, with a cost of Rs 23,000. The Pind Daan will be conducted at three significant sites: Vishnupad Temple, Akshaya Vat, and the Falgu River. Participants will receive a recorded copy of the entire ritual via pen drive.

This initiative broadens access for devotees living abroad, including those in the United States, Europe, the Gulf region, and Asia. The goal is to enhance Gaya Ji’s global religious and cultural significance.

Online bookings will open on August 25th or 26th through the BSTDC’s official website. Nagendra Kumar notes the increasing popularity of the online service, with many devotees already taking advantage of it.

The Pitru Paksha Mela is more than just a religious observance; it’s a powerful symbol of respect for ancestors within Indian culture. It solidifies Gaya Ji’s position as a significant religious heritage site and a hub for cultural unity. Modern technology is expanding the reach of this ancient tradition.

Kumar anticipates that the upcoming Mela will extend its reach through the online platform, reaching countless homes across India and abroad. Last year, a substantial number of registrations were processed, and this year, the demand is expected to be even higher.

District Magistrate Shashank Kumar is supervising the preparations, including tent setups and barricades. These preparations are scheduled to be completed by August 29th, ensuring a smooth experience for all participants.

However, Premnath Taiya, a member of the Vishnupad Management Committee, is opposed to the online Pind Daan policy, seeing it as a threat to the Sanatani culture and the traditional values of Gaya Ji. He underscores the belief that performing Tarpan in the Falgu River is essential for ancestral liberation. He expresses concern that the online system jeopardizes the cultural practices and livelihoods of the Panda community, and they are considering legal action to protect their traditions.
