The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert, predicting heavy rainfall in multiple states on Monday, July 21. The monsoon trough, currently over west Rajasthan, is influencing weather patterns across northern India. This is expected to provide some respite from the heat.

Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh are likely to experience isolated heavy rainfall. Other states, including Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, West Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana, are also under a heavy rainfall alert. In West India, Konkan, Goa, and Maharashtra are expected to experience heavy showers, with Marathwada also in the forecast for heavy rain.

South India will see heavy to very heavy rainfall in Kerala, Mahe, Coastal and South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana. Heavy rain is also predicted for Bengaluru, Kolar, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, Hassan, Mysuru, Chamarajanagara and Tumakuru districts.

Strong surface winds are anticipated over Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and Telangana. The southwest monsoon is normal over Karnataka. East and Central India, specifically Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Sikkim, and Bihar, are expected to have heavy rain.

Northeast India, including Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh, is forecast to receive heavy rainfall, with thunderstorms likely. Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura will also experience rainfall. The IMD predicts light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning over the region for the next seven days. An orange alert is in place for Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Andhra Pradesh.

The Delhi-NCR region will experience more rainfall this week. Very light rain is anticipated for Delhi on Monday, with a cloudy sky expected throughout the day.
