Political endorsements can reshape narratives, and Chirag Paswan’s recent accolade for Bihar CM Nitish Kumar is a case in point. The LJP leader has publicly advocated for conferring the Bharat Ratna on Nitish, citing his transformative governance.

In a detailed speech, Paswan outlined Nitish’s journey from a socialist roots activist to a development-focused administrator. ‘His policies have bridged urban-rural divides, empowered the marginalized, and set Bihar on a growth path unseen before,’ Paswan noted.

Reflecting on history, Paswan recalled the once-strong bond between his family and Nitish, disrupted by electoral dynamics. Yet, he stressed that true leadership merits applause beyond politics. Key achievements mentioned include the ‘Saat Nishchay’ scheme, enhancing seven resolutions for youth, women, and the elderly.

Bihar’s progress under Nitish – GDP growth outpacing national averages, improved law and order, and massive infrastructure push – forms the crux of Paswan’s argument. ‘The Bharat Ratna isn’t just an award; it’s acknowledgment of nation-building efforts,’ he asserted.

This comes against a backdrop of NDA unity efforts. Post-2020, when Chirag’s aggressive strategy targeted JD(U), reconciliation has been gradual. Now, with state elections looming, such statements foster cohesion.

Critics might view it as opportunistic, but supporters hail it as mature politics. Nitish, ever the pragmatist, has prioritized deliverables over drama, from flood control to digital literacy drives.

Paswan’s praise extends to Nitish’s role in national coalitions, stabilizing governments. As discussions on honors intensify, this could influence decisions. Ultimately, it spotlights Bihar’s evolving story, where former foes unite in admiration.
