A horrifying incident in Sarwani village, under Chakarbhatha police station in Bilaspur district, saw a son take his mother’s life. The son, Vishnu Kewat, 38, was greatly concerned about the persistent poor health of his children. He sought help from various practitioners, including shamans. One shaman convinced him that his children were victims of witchcraft, and the perpetrator was someone known to them. The shaman identified Vishnu’s mother, Mantora Bai Kewat, as the one responsible. Vishnu, influenced by this information, confronted his mother. When she denied the accusations, he attacked and killed her using an axe. After the murder, Vishnu went to the Chakarbhatha police station and confessed. The police are investigating the case, have sent the body for a post-mortem, and have filed a murder charge against the son.
