Woman Jailed in Bihar for Alcohol Sales: Landmark Sentencing Under Prohibition

A woman in Bihar has been sentenced to five years in prison and a fine of 1 lakh rupees for violating the state’s alcohol prohibition. This marks a first in the state, as no woman had previously been sentenced under this law. The case originated in the Bagaha district, where the woman was caught trading alcohol illegally. Police had arrested the woman three years prior in Jitpur Matiyaria village. Authorities found 32 liters of local liquor, 80 kg of semi-finished liquor, and equipment for alcohol production. Special Judge Rajiv Kumar Dwivedi presided over the court proceedings and delivered the sentence. If the fine isn’t paid, the woman will serve an additional six months. She was escorted to Bagaha jail following the sentencing. The state’s arguments were presented by SPP Anwar Hussain Ansari.
