A spirited Indian effort fell short by just four runs as England secured their semi-final qualification in the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025. The crucial match, held at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore, saw England post 288 for 8 after deciding to bat first. In response, India’s determined chase, featuring strong performances from their key players, was ultimately contained by England’s disciplined bowling. This victory confirms England’s status as the third semi-finalist, alongside Australia and South Africa. For India, this marks the end of their journey in the current World Cup, suffering their third consecutive loss. The Indian batting order demonstrated fighting spirit, with Smriti Mandhana leading the way with a well-played 88. Harmanpreet Kaur chipped in with a valuable 70, and Deepti Sharma contributed 50 runs, keeping the chase competitive. However, England’s bowlers consistently applied pressure, breaking crucial partnerships and preventing India from building significant momentum. The required run rate steadily increased in the latter stages of the innings, a testament to England’s strategic bowling. Natalie Sciver-Brunt was the most successful bowler, taking 2 wickets for 47 runs. Other wicket-takers for England included Linsey Smith, Charlie Dean, Sophie Ecclestone, and Lauren Bell, who all played their part in restricting India’s scoring and securing the vital win.
