15 Hindu college students injured after being stopped from celebrating Holi in Pakistan’s Punjab University

By Press Trust of India: At least 15 college students from Pakistan’s minority Hindu group had been injured on Monday after members of a radical Islamic pupil organisation allegedly stopped them from celebrating Holi on the Punjab University premises right here.

Holi, a pageant of colors, is widely known to mark the onset of spring. The incident passed off on the Law College of Punjab University on Monday, when round 30 Hindu college students gathered to have fun Holi.

“As students gathered on the lawns of the law college, the Islami Jamiat Tulba (IJT) activists forcibly stopped them from celebrating Holi, which led to a clash resulting in injuries to 15 Hindu students,” Kashif Brohi, a college pupil and an eyewitness instructed PTI.

They had taken prior permission from the college administration, Brohi claimed.

Khet Kumar, who suffered accidents on his hand, stated the college guards thrashed them once they held an illustration exterior the Vice-Chancellor workplace to protest the therapy meted out by IJT members.

“We have filed an application with the police against the IJT and the security guards involved in thrashing and torturing us, but FIR has not been registered as yet,” Kumar stated.

When contacted by PTI, IJT (Punjab University) spokesperson Ibrahim Shahid denied the involvement of its college students within the incident.

“None of the students involved in a brawl with the Hindu students belong to the IJT,” he stated and added the IJT organised ‘Quran Reading’ on the legislation faculty.

Punjab University spokesman Khurram Shahzad instructed PTI that the varsity administration had not given permission to the maintain Holi celebrations on the lawns of the legislation faculty.

“There would not have been any problem had the celebrations were observed indoors,” he stated.

Shahzad added the V-C has ordered inquiry into the matter.
