Shanta Paul, a Bangladeshi model and actress, has been arrested in Kolkata on charges related to the use of fraudulent documents. Authorities have accused Paul of using fake identification, including Aadhaar and PAN cards, to establish residency in India. She is alleged to have digitally married Sahik Mohammad Ashraf of Andhra Pradesh. Before the arrest, she worked for an airline and participated in the Indo-Bangla Beauty Pageant in 2016, winning the Miss Asia Global title in 2019. Paul also acted in Tamil, Bengali, and Odia films. The police have found multiple identity documents during the search, including an admit card for the Bangladeshi secondary examination and an airline ID.
