Baghaei: Iran-US MOU Could Be Ready in Days

Iran’s top diplomat for public messaging, Ismail Baghaei, announced that work on a draft memorandum of understanding between Tehran and Washington is entering its final stages. The document is designed to codify the end of hostilities that erupted in late February and lasted more than a month. Baghaei told reporters that the 14-point draft addresses immediate military de-escalation measures, such as lifting naval restrictions and unfreezing Iranian assets abroad. He clarified that the 30-to-60-day countdown for a final agreement will begin only after both sides formally endorse the MOU. Nuclear talks remain sidelined for the time being. The latest diplomatic activity follows a visit to Tehran by Pakistani army chief General Asim Munir and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. Islamabad has positioned itself as the principal channel for back-channel communications. Baghaei said the next three to four days will show whether the draft can be locked in, paving the way for broader regional stabilization talks that also encompass Lebanon. The conflict, which started with US and Israeli strikes on Iranian targets, concluded with a ceasefire on April 8. Follow-up negotiations held in Pakistan on April 11-12 did not produce a permanent settlement, but written proposals have continued to circulate between the two sides.
