A horrific incident in Brazil’s Santa Catarina state has resulted in the deaths of eight people after a hot-air balloon caught fire and crashed. The accident occurred in the Praia Grande area, a popular tourist destination known for its scenic hot-air balloon rides over canyons. The balloon was carrying 21 people when it burst into flames mid-air shortly after 8 am local time. Thirteen individuals survived the crash and were immediately transported to hospitals for medical care. Firefighters and emergency services were on the scene to aid in recovery and assist the injured. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, with authorities calling it a tragedy. President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva offered his support and condolences to the families, confirming that federal and state agencies are working together to provide assistance. This incident is reminiscent of another recent balloon accident in São Paulo, raising questions about safety practices in the industry.
