Canada rejects India’s journey warning amid diplomatic row

2 min read

The Canadian authorities on Wednesday rejected India’s warning to its residents towards visiting components of Canada. Canada is a protected nation, Public Safety Minister Dominic Leblanc was quoted as saying by Reuters.

The improvement follows hours after India issued an advisory for its nationals and college students dwelling in Canada. The advisory urged them to “exercise utmost caution” in view of “growing anti-India activities and politically-condoned hate crimes and violence in Canada”. The advisory cited threats to “Indian diplomats and sections of the Indian community who oppose the anti-India agenda” and suggested Indian nations to keep away from travelling to areas which have witnessed such incidents.

India’s warning adopted Canada’s advisory to its nationals in India. The Canadian authorities on Tuesday urged its nationals to “observe a high degree of caution”.

“There are certain safety and security concerns or the situation could change quickly. Be very cautious at all times, monitor local media and follow the instructions of local authorities,” it added. The advisory advised residents dwelling in India to “think about leaving the country if it is safe to do so”.

The diplomatic conflict between the 2 nations started on Tuesday after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged that Canadian safety businesses had “credible evidence” that brokers of Indian authorities had “potential links” to the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijaar in Surrey in June.

India has denied the allegations, terming them “absurd” and “motivated”.
