The U.S. military has sunk a suspected drug-laden submarine in the Caribbean Sea, the White House confirmed Sunday. The vessel was intercepted on Thursday as it traveled along a known drug smuggling route headed for American shores. This operation resulted in two fatalities and is the sixth such U.S. military action against maritime drug trafficking in the Caribbean in recent weeks. According to the Trump administration, previous strikes led to the deaths of 27 individuals. Donald Trump hailed the mission on Truth Social, asserting that 25,000 Americans would have died if the submarine had reached its target. He described the intercepted vessel as a “very large” drug-carrying submarine and stated it was his “great honor” to authorize its destruction, highlighting that U.S. forces sustained no injuries. Trump emphasized a firm U.S. policy against drug trafficking. The two surviving crew members will be returned to their home countries, Ecuador and Colombia, for legal processing. The President of Colombia confirmed the apprehension of a Colombian national, who will be prosecuted under applicable laws.
