Jaishankar and Johann Wedphul, the Indian side stressed the need to ensure Ariha’s cultural rights are protected and she is raised in an Indian environment. The child was placed in foster care after an incident involving an injury, with German authorities classifying the situation as potential abuse. Despite the parents’ assertion that the injury was accidental, the child remains in care. The Indian government, with the Indian Embassy in Berlin, is actively working to bring her back. Concerns have been raised by the Ministry of External Affairs about the possible negative impact of the special foster arrangement on her emotional and mental health. The parents are working diligently to meet their daughter and navigate the legal system, worried about the potential permanent loss of custody due to delays. India has a strong child welfare system and potential foster parents are willing to provide a home for her while maintaining her socio-cultural rights.
