China’s skies were busier than ever in 2025, as civilian transport airports scaled new heights in operational stats. The CAAC’s latest report shows a record 1,529.046 million passengers, a 4.8% rise year-over-year. Cargo/mail handled ballooned to 21.864 million tons (+9.0%), and takeoffs/landings climbed to 12.448 million (+0.4%).
With 270 certified airports—266 active and serving 261 cities—this ecosystem powers the world’s most populous nation.
Dominance in passenger handling was clear: 41 airports crossed the 10-million mark, shouldering 83.7% of all traffic. From mega-hubs to regional connectors, they embody China’s travel renaissance.
Cargo leaders numbered 35, each topping 100,000 tons and comprising 93.6% of national volume. This reflects strategic shifts toward air freight amid rising e-commerce and global trade tensions.
The achievements come against a backdrop of policy support and technological leaps, positioning Chinese aviation for exponential growth in the coming decade.
