China’s logistics engine revved up strongly in Q1, with social logistics totaling 96.4 trillion yuan—a 6.2 percent jump from last year, as per the latest figures from the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing. The growth rate improved by 0.5 points over the prior year’s equivalent quarter.

Kicking off the year with vigor, the industry met robust demand surges and fortified its resilience. This comes as businesses ramp up inventories and consumer spending ticks upward.

The star performer was industrial goods logistics, which grew 5.8 percent year-on-year and drove 80 percent of the overall upswing. High-level manufacturing logistics demand dominated, exceeding 80 percent within the industrial category.

Behind this lies a web of factors: streamlined operations, digital transformation, and government-backed infrastructure projects. These elements have cushioned the sector from external shocks like geopolitical frictions.

Forward-looking, the logistics boom could amplify China’s GDP contributions, especially if paired with export recovery. It’s a testament to the nation’s supply chain sophistication in a fragmented global order.
