Senator Miguel Uribe has died following a shooting in Bogotá. The attack occurred two months prior during a campaign event. Uribe, a member of the right-wing opposition and a potential presidential candidate, was shot while campaigning. His wife, Maria Claudia Tarazona, expressed her grief. The mayor of Bogotá confirmed that medical attention was provided after the attack. The Colombian government sent its condolences. President Gustavo Petro called for a thorough investigation. A 15-year-old suspect was arrested shortly after the shooting, but the motive remains unknown. The senator, who was 39, had been a member of the Senate since 2022, he was the son of journalist Diana Turbay and grandson of Julio Cesar Turbay Ayala. Six people have been booked in connection with the case, including two men who allegedly planned the assassination in Medellín.
