In the wake of a fatal shooting incident involving two West Virginia National Guard members near the White House, former President Donald Trump has vehemently criticized the Biden-Harris administration’s immigration policies. Trump asserted that “unchecked and unvetted” migrants are being allowed into the country, leading to national endangerment. “Crooked Joe Biden, Mayorkas, and so-called ‘Border Czar’ Kamala Harris really screwed our Country by letting anyone and everyone come in totally unchecked and unvetted,” Trump posted on Truth Social. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) aligned with this criticism, stating that admitting the alleged perpetrator, an Afghan national named Lakanwal, was an “act of national self-sabotage.” Consequently, DHS has halted all immigration processing for Afghan nationals until security and vetting protocols are thoroughly re-examined. National Guard Secretary Kristi Noem specifically implicated President Biden, stating that the suspect’s application to enter the U.S. was processed under his administration, making him responsible for the death of National Guard Specialist Sarah Beckstrom. Lakanwal, who had previously served in an Afghan Army special forces unit, entered the U.S. in 2021 via Operation Allies Welcome. He is now charged with first-degree murder, and the investigation continues into his circumstances in the United States.
